Ethereum and Base Split on Account-Abstraction Standards
Ethereum and Base, two of the most-watched networks in the Ethereum ecosystem, have parted ways on their account-abstraction standards. The split means that each will now develop its own solution, with Ethereum pursuing EIP-8141, or Frame Transactions, and Base focusing on EIP-8130, a Keystore-based design.
The dispute centers around how to make account abstraction native to the base layer. This would allow users to pay network fees without holding ETH and sign transactions with a phone passkey without add-on infrastructure.
Derek Chiang, an Ethlabs developer who co-authored one of the two proposals, argued that wallet software can still hide the difference from end users. However, it remains to be seen whether this claim holds true as development continues.
