Ethereum Awaits Glamsterdam Upgrade for 200M Gas Test
Ethereum (ETH) is trading just below $2,700 as the network prepares for the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Sepolia testnet, scheduled for October 6, 2026. The upgrade aims to test a 200-million-gas limit, a significant increase from the current block size, to assess whether larger blocks are technically viable. Prysm, a major Ethereum client, released version 7.2.1 late last night to address configuration issues, ensuring validators can participate in the trial. Without the update, older configurations may continue producing blocks near the current 60-million-gas limit.
The upcoming test could influence Ethereum's price prediction, as a successful trial might boost confidence in the network's scalability. However, the activation itself is scheduled for October 6 at 13:53:36 UTC, with the results likely to impact market sentiment. ETH is currently consolidating beneath resistance, facing additional demand-side headwinds from reported weekly net outflows from U.S. spot Ether ETFs.
Macroeconomic factors, including the Fed’s September meeting minutes on October 7 and the U.S. CPI on October 14, could also move yields and the dollar, potentially affecting crypto risk appetite. Ethereum’s technical setup remains a near-term price filter, with support at $2,650, $2,700 and resistance at $2,733, $2,775. A decisive close above $2,800 could strengthen a breakout setup, while a loss of $2,650 might expose deeper support around $2,550, $2,612.
The Sepolia trial's outcome may improve confidence if validators handle larger blocks reliably, but inconsistent configurations could complicate the results. Persistent outflows from Ether ETFs will also be a key factor to watch, as they could weigh on Ethereum's price in the short term.
