Ethereum Breaks $2,500, Sets Stage for $12,000 Target
Ethereum has broken through the critical level of $2,500, according to analyst John Gillen. This milestone opens the door for the next target, which is $3,000.
Gillen's roadmap also includes a stretch target of $12,000 over the next two years, but he notes that Ethereum is 'much harder to predict than Bitcoin' due to its sharp price swings and lack of a set pattern.
The analyst points out that Ethereum has made significant progress in delivering on its promises, including switching from proof of work to proof of stake without any downtime. The network also leads in tokenized assets, stablecoins, and agentic finance, holding around 55% to 70% of the market.
Gillen believes that institutional money is a key variable in determining Ethereum's price movement over the next two years. If institutions flow into Ethereum, he expects it to reach $10,000 without dominating the market. However, if it maintains its market share, the case for reaching $12,000 becomes 'very strong', and the difference between a $6,000 and $20,000 ETH price could be just institutional adoption.
