Ethereum Co-Founder Sees Last 'Normal' Fork with Hegota Upgrade

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin thinks next year's Hegota upgrade will be the network's last conventional fork. In an essay on his blog, he stated that features in Hegota would still be recognizable to a developer from 2015.

The work after Hegota is expected to involve advanced cryptography and quantum-safe designs. This includes recursive STARKs, automated formal verification, highly optimized consensus, and quantum safety.

Ethereum.org lists two scheduled changes for Hegota: Fork-Choice Enforced Inclusion Lists (FOCIL) and frame transactions. FOCIL allows a committee of validators to propose transaction lists that block builders must honor.
