Ethereum Co-Founder Warns AI Threatens Blockchain Privacy
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, sounded the alarm on blockchain privacy at the 12th Global Blockchain Summit on September 23, 2026. He warned that advances in AI and data analysis have made it no longer sufficient to keep real names separate from public addresses.
The traditional framework, which separated a holder's identity from their transactions, is no longer effective against algorithmic surveillance. Today, modern analytical tools can automatically track transfers and identify correlations between accounts in seconds.
To address this issue, Buterin proposed the use of programmable cryptography to restrict access to sensitive data beyond mere transfers. This shift aims to ensure confidentiality rules are encoded directly into base-layer protocols and applications.
