Ethereum Community Prepares for Glamsterdam with Testnet Platåberget
The Ethereum community has been given an early testing ground to prepare for upcoming changes. Platåberget, a short-term testnet, will run for a few months and allow developers to experiment with post-Glamsterdam Ethereum. The upgrade includes breaking changes that require tool updates, particularly affecting wallets, indexers, and gas estimators.
The Glamsterdam fork introduces significant modifications to both the consensus and execution layers. Enshrined Proposer-Builder Separation is a major change that affects block production and validation. Block-Level Access Lists are also introduced, recording accessed state locations and post-transaction changes. Gas repricings aim for a 200M gas floor, affecting tools that hardcode maximum gas limits.
Platåberget has a relatively small but publically joinable validator set, allowing developers to test their infrastructure before the Glamsterdam fork on August 20th. The community is encouraged to use this opportunity to identify issues and prepare for the upgrade.
