Ethereum Completes First Atomic Mainnet to Layer 2 Transaction
Ethereum has achieved a significant milestone with the completion of its first atomic transaction between the mainnet and a Layer 2 network. This breakthrough, announced by Eduardo Antuna, a core contributor to the Ethereum Economic Zone (EEZ), demonstrates the functionality of atomic synchronous composability on the live Ethereum mainnet. The transaction involved moving 0.001 Ether (ETH) while simultaneously updating a connected rollup in the same block, ensuring all linked actions occurred together.
The success of this test highlights the potential to reduce reliance on traditional bridges and separate transactions. Currently, users often need extra steps to move assets between Ethereum layers, which can fragment funds and complicate network usage. The EEZ framework aims to enable L2 networks to interact more directly with Ethereum contracts and liquidity, creating a more unified system.
The Ethereum Economic Zone was developed by Gnosis and Zisk, with support from the Ethereum Foundation. Following the mainnet test, Gnosis Chain plans to launch its first live EEZ rollup block between December 2026 and January 2027. This development could enhance network utility and potentially boost demand for ETH.
As of now, ETH is trading above the $2,700 support level, with $3,300 identified as the next key resistance. Citigroup has raised its institutional ETH target to $3,028, adding to the bullish outlook. Continued advancements in the Ethereum ecosystem could further support the price of ETH over time.
