Ethereum Copies Cardano's EUTXO Logic, Says Founder Charles Hoskinson

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has accused Ethereum of quietly adopting the EUTXO logic that underpins Cardano's smart contracts. This comes after a new research design proposed native UTXO-style payments for Ethereum.

The proposal, published by Ethereum Foundation researcher Toni Wahrstätter, would treat simple payments as temporary, one-shot objects rather than permanent account-state entries. This approach is similar to Bitcoin's UTXO model, where each output is created once, spent once, and then leaves the active memory set.

Hoskinson claims that Ethereum developers are copying Cardano's EUTXO design without giving credit, saying 'EUTXO is the biggest innovation of the smart contract world and Ethereum cannot mention it as they literally try to copy it.'
