Ethereum Derivatives Demand Surpasses Bitcoin on Hyperliquid
Hyperliquid's Ethereum perpetual futures open interest has reached an all-time high of $3.02 billion, surpassing Bitcoin's $2.8 billion for the first time. This marks a significant shift in speculative demand towards Ethereum, according to crypto media outlet Cryptobriefing.
Open interest on Hyperliquid, a decentralized derivatives exchange, reflects actual position size and is used to gauge investor participation intensity and leverage levels. The total open interest on Hyperliquid reached an all-time high of approximately $18 billion as of late September, representing around 9-11% of global perpetual futures open interest.
The spot price of Ethereum, however, has been undergoing a correction, with prices below $2,700 and failing to reclaim the $2,800 level on a weekly closing basis. Some analysts are raising concerns that the correction could erode September's gains, while others suggest ETH's next resistance level is $2,800.
The situation where Ethereum open interest has surged to record levels while spot prices undergo a correction suggests that leveraged positions are rapidly accumulating among market participants. The expansion of decentralized exchange open interest share to around 10% indicates growing confidence in on-chain derivatives infrastructure.
