Ethereum Devcon 8 Coming to Mumbai in November

The Ethereum Foundation has announced that Devcon 8 will be held in Mumbai from November 3-6, marking the first time the event will be hosted in South Asia. The conference aims to unite core teams and applications for building with Ethereum, focusing on developer-first topics such as Ethereum protocol research, client teams, Layer-2 infrastructure, and community coordination.

Mumbai was chosen due to its high concentration of developers, with over 17 million registered on GitHub, making it the largest source of new crypto developers since 2023. The city's environment is challenging, with a 30% tax on crypto gains and 1% TDS, but momentum is shifting with RBI CBDC pilots and enterprise Ethereum layer-2 adoption.

The event is expected to attract over 10,000 attendees, with programming anchored by client teams such as Geth, Nethermind, Besu, and Prysm, as well as Layer-2 teams like Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, and Starknet. Ticket sales have already begun, with prices ranging from $499 in ETH to $1,199 in fiat.
