Ethereum Entry Queue Fluctuations Put First-Year Rewards at Risk
The Ethereum entry queue has been experiencing some fluctuations in recent times. As of September 24, 2026, the queue held around 1.68 million ETH, which is lower than the peak of 3.59 million ETH seen on May 20, 2026.
Interestingly, while entries into the network decreased, there were still 154,000 ETH waiting to exit the network on September 24, 2026. This means that for every 1 ETH that leaves the network, approximately 11 new ETH enter it.
The entry queue limits deposits to 256 ETH per epoch, which translates to around 57,600 ETH daily. With a total of 2.23 million ETH in the mid-August queue, it would take approximately 39 days for this amount to process through the entry queue.
This delay can have a significant impact on first-year rewards, reducing them by around 10.6% for those joining in August. In fact, validators that spend 38.7 days in the queue lose roughly 10.6% of their first-year rewards.
