Ethereum Exchange Reserves Bleed $25.6M Weekly Amid Surging Smart Contract Deployments
Ethereum's exchange reserves are experiencing a significant squeeze, draining around $25.6 million per week as new smart contract deployments surge approximately 50% above the trailing three-month average.
As of August 5, Ethereum was trading at around $1,907, stuck in a tight band between $1,840 and $1,950. The liquidity drain is substantial, with total exchange reserves falling to multi-year lows.
Some measures suggest these levels haven't been this low since 2016, and staking now accounts for over 30% of the total ETH supply. Cold storage withdrawals also indicate that holders are pulling ETH off exchanges and storing it in wallets they don't plan to touch anytime soon.
The surge in smart contract deployments is a positive sign for Ethereum's adoption as a productive economic layer, despite the declining tradeable supply. This shift towards staking and contract deployment could amplify demand for the token even further.
