Ethereum Exit Queue Hits Record 850,736 ETH Amid MetaMask Exit Surge
Ethereum's validator exit queue has reached a record high of 850,736 ETH, according to data from beaconcha.in. This represents a significant backlog of validators waiting to exit active staking, but the queue itself is a protocol-controlled mechanism designed to prevent large amounts of stake from exiting simultaneously.
The queue is currently processing at a rate of 256 validator exits per epoch, which means large batches of exit requests are being processed gradually rather than immediately. This design allows Ethereum to absorb changes in staking participation without permitting abrupt validator-set reductions.
A recent factor behind the surge is MetaMask's decision to exit affected Ethereum validators following a security incident. The company estimated about 17,000 MetaMask-operated validators representing roughly 523,000 ETH were being exited, although MetaMask had not confirmed those figures.
The Ethereum price has remained relatively stable despite the increase in queued exits, trading around $2,725 on October 2. The broader staking picture remains substantial, with approximately 35.76% of ETH supply currently staked.
