Ethereum Exit Queue Hits Record High as MetaMask-Related Exits Contribute to Surge
The Ethereum validator exit queue has reached its highest level of the year at 850,736 ETH. This number represents the amount of Ether waiting to leave active staking, but it is a protocol-controlled mechanism designed to prevent large amounts of stake from exiting simultaneously.
The current queue contains 2% of the network's currently staked supply, which stands at around 43.6 million ETH across 878,089 active validators. The exit queue has a waiting time of about 14 days and 18 hours, with the network allowing 256 validator exits per epoch.
A recent factor behind the surge is MetaMask's decision to exit affected Ethereum validators following a security incident. Approximately 17,000 MetaMask-operated validators representing around 523,000 ETH were being exited, which suggests that operational and security decisions by large staking providers can influence Ethereum's validator-exit demand.
Despite the increase in queued exits, ETH has remained relatively stable, with prices holding above $2,700. The broader staking picture remains substantial, with approximately 35.76% of ETH supply currently staked according to Validator Queue.
