Ethereum Extends Lead Over Bitcoin as Q4 Begins
Ethereum's third quarter was its best since the beginning of the year, with a 70.8% increase in value. This marked a significant turnaround for Ethereum, which had declined by 29.26% in Q1 and then another 25.28% in Q2.
The strong quarterly performance outpaced the previous high in Q3 2025, where Ethereum saw a 66.55% increase in value. The rebound was not only impressive but also significantly stronger than the average quarterly return of 13.20%, according to CoinGlass data.
However, there are indications that the quarterly returns may be less impressive for Ethereum in Q4. The median return for the fourth quarter has decreased to 0.36% compared to the historic average return of 16.97%. This means sustaining the recovery will depend on whether strong Q3 momentum can carry into the new quarter.
