Ethereum Eyes Breakout Above $2,800 With $3,500 in Sight
Ethereum's price is at a critical juncture as analysts watch whether it can reclaim the $2,800 level. A strong weekly close above this resistance could set the stage for a move toward $3,400 to $3,500. Crypto Patel, a prominent analyst, has outlined even more ambitious targets, including a $60,000 macro bull case. However, this long-term outlook depends on several key resistance breaks and is not a near-term expectation.
As of October 5, Ethereum was trading near $2,716, holding above the $2,600 support area after September's rally. The cryptocurrency has been consolidating near $2,700 while maintaining the $2,600-$2,635 support zone. Institutional flows have been weak, with U.S. spot Ether ETFs recording about $155.12 million in net outflows over four sessions. BlackRock and Fidelity were the primary contributors to these withdrawals.
Liquidity remains a constraint, with ETH order-book depth measured at $13 million to $14 million close to the mid-price. This is only 35% to 45% of Bitcoin's comparable depth across eight major exchanges. Upcoming catalysts include the Glamsterdam Sepolia activation on October 6, which introduces proposer-builder separation and block-level access lists. The Federal Reserve minutes, set for release on October 7, could also impact crypto liquidity.
A failure to hold the $2,600 support could shift attention toward the $2,480-$2,520 range. Conversely, a confirmed break above $2,800 would strengthen the pathway toward $3,000 and the $3,400-$3,500 target.
