Ethereum Faces CPI Test as Glamsterdam Upgrade Looms
Ethereum's price has been under pressure due to rising inflation expectations and tight Federal Reserve policy, causing investors to pull away from risk assets. The US producer price index (PPI) rose 0.4% in August from the previous month and increased 5.4% from a year earlier, with energy prices driving much of the increase. This has led to increased pressure on Ethereum's price, which tested $2,400 after the PPI release but remained within the $2,370 to $2,550 range.
Meanwhile, developers are making progress on Glamsterdam, a key upgrade to the Sepolia testnet, with a tentative target date of October 6. This upgrade introduces enshrined proposer-builder separation (ePBS), which brings interactions between validators and block builders directly into Ethereum's protocol. However, testing has exposed a bug that caused non-finality during a Glamsterdam devnet transition, requiring developers to complete another clean transition before Sepolia testing.
The upcoming August CPI report could materially change rate expectations before the Fed meeting, influencing demand for Ethereum and other risk assets. A sustained move above $2,550 would increase the probability of a push toward $2,600 to $2,700, while a break below $2,370 would open the path toward $2,200.
