Ethereum Faces Liquidity Challenge as $2.2 Billion in ETH Awaits Exit
Ethereum (ETH) is trading at $2,702 on Sunday evening, just 2.7% below its September high of $2,775. The next potential target for the cryptocurrency is that same high, but the focus this weekend is on liquidity constraints. A significant 812,887 ETH, worth approximately $2.2 billion, are currently in the staking exit queue, facing a withdrawal delay of roughly 22 days.
The exit queue poses a challenge for investors who may need liquidity before the Glamsterdam upgrade on November 4. The current waiting time to exit staking is about 14 days, with an additional 7.6-day sweep delay before funds become available. This means that any exit initiated today would not see funds available until October 25, leaving little time for adjustments before the upgrade.
Despite the exit queue, the entry queue is even larger, with 1,480,361 ETH waiting to enter staking. This imbalance suggests that more investors are committing to staking than exiting, which could support Ethereum's price in the long term. The upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade, scheduled for November 4, includes key improvements like enshrined proposer-builder separation and access lists, aimed at enhancing network efficiency.
For those holding staked ETH and needing liquidity by the upgrade date, the latest exit should be triggered by October 14 to ensure funds are available in time. However, waiting times can vary, so a buffer period is advisable. The current Ethereum price remains 21.6% above its 200-day line, indicating a strong upward trend despite the liquidity challenges.
