Ethereum Foundation Deploys Simplified Validator Tech for Institutional Staking
The Ethereum Foundation has taken a significant step towards making staking more accessible to institutional investors. In February, they staked 72,000 ETH using a simplified version of distributed validator technology called DVT-lite.
Co-founder Vitalik Buterin disclosed that the assets are currently sitting in the validator entry queue and will be activated on March 19th.
DVT-lite takes a simpler approach to standard solo staking, which runs on a single machine. If that machine crashes or goes offline, the validator can stop working and face slashing penalties. DVT-lite distributes private keys across several coordinating nodes with automatic failover if one node goes down.
This move is seen as a proof-of-concept aimed at making distributed staking more accessible to institutions with large ETH holdings.
