Ethereum Foundation Deploys Simplified Validator Tech for Institutional Adoption
The Ethereum Foundation has taken a significant step towards making distributed staking more accessible to institutions by staking 72,000 ETH in February using a simplified version of distributed validator technology called DVT-lite.
This move is seen as a proof-of-concept aimed at making it easier for large ETH holders to participate in staking, which currently controls about 31% of the total supply. The assets are set to be activated on March 19 and are currently sitting in the validator entry queue.
According to Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, DVT-lite takes a simpler approach than standard solo staking or full DVT by loading the same validator key onto several machines with automatic failover if one goes down. This reduces the process to a single command per node and makes it easier for users to set up their nodes.
The prevailing mindset that running infrastructure is a complicated task requiring professional expertise has been a major obstacle to broader participation in Ethereum staking, Buterin notes. However, with DVT-lite, he hopes more large ETH holders will follow his lead and use the system personally.
