Swiss Bitcoin Pay, a non-custodial merchant payment processor, has suffered a data breach after a malicious user gained access to its internal systems. The company disclosed on September 14 that customer email addresses, bitcoin addresses, and IBANs may have fallen into the wrong hands.

The team believes the malicious user accessed this information, as well as transaction history and hashed passwords. Swiss Bitcoin Pay has temporarily shut down its servers while it investigates and secures its infrastructure.

This is not an isolated incident, with at least five crypto firms hit by data breaches in 2026. Revolut, Trezor, Pocket Bitcoin, Bits of Gold, and Safepal have all been affected, with user information compromised in each case.

Swiss Bitcoin Pay assures users that their funds are safe, and any amounts owed will be fully returned. The company's website claims it has over 1,000 merchants using its application across 21 countries.
