Ethereum Foundation Pins Hegotá Upgrade on Two Key Proposals

The Ethereum Foundation has published its unified ranking of Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) for the upcoming Hegotá upgrade. The review process, informed by input from around 60 researchers and engineers across the Protocol cluster, narrowed down a list of 62 candidate EIPs to just two 'must-ship' proposals.

The top-ranked proposal is EIP-7805, known as FOCIL (Flexible On-chain Censorship Inhibition Layer), which targets a more censorship-resistant path by reducing reliance on centralized block builders for eligible transactions. This could make it easier for users to have their transactions included without being dependent on these intermediaries.

The second 'must-ship' proposal is EIP-8141, dubbed Frame Transactions, which introduces native account abstraction and creates a pathway toward post-quantum authentication. The Foundation suggests that this change could serve as a protocol-level building block for privacy-focused applications.

These two proposals are positioned as the upgrade's core pillars, with their implementation considered non-negotiable. If either proposal faces significant risk, the Hegotá schedule should be adjusted before any proposal is dropped.
