Ethereum Foundation Sets Quantum Resistance Target for 2029
The Ethereum Foundation has set a target of December 2029 to make Ethereum's Layer 1 quantum-resistant across execution, consensus, and data. This deadline will narrow the scope of Hegotá, the planned upgrade after Glamsterdam.
Two proposals, FOCIL (EIP-7805) and Frame Transactions (EIP-8141), have been designated as 'must-ship' for Hegotá. FOCIL would allow multiple validators to require eligible transactions in a block, reducing dependence on centralized block builders. Frame Transactions would make account validation, execution, and gas payment programmable at the protocol level.
Several validator-facing proposals were declined for Hegotá, including custom sweep thresholds and a tapered issuance burn. The cluster said that issuance and reward policy belong in a broader ecosystem process.
