Ethereum Foundation Targets Old Validators as Market Attention Surges
The Ethereum Foundation has added EIP-8365 to its repository as part of an effort to retire old 0x00 withdrawal credentials. The proposal was submitted on September 17 and aims to remove inactive validators using this credential type, which would no longer be able to process new deposits.
According to the proposal, there are currently around 9,290 active 0x00 validators, with about 4.45% of them offline for at least 30 days. This could lead to a long-term issue, as it may take up to 28 years for these validators to be ejected from the system.
The Ethereum Foundation also recently moved $2.45 million in ETH to an unlabelled Gnosis Safe, sparking market attention and speculation about the sale of ETH. However, it's not clear if this transfer indicates a sale, as the purpose is still unknown.
