Ethereum Founder Warns of 'Robot Money Agents' Dominating the Decade Ahead
Ethereum founder Joseph Lubin has framed the next decade as a battle over 'robot money agents' that sit between users and their capital, according to recent comments. These agents are essentially intermediaries between users and their assets, rather than another fintech feature.
Lubin highlighted MetaMask's Open Money OS and ERC-8004 trustless agents as examples of solutions that can keep rails open and user-owned. This stack includes stablecoins, tokenized assets, DeFi, and verifiable agent identity.
The projected activity in this stack is substantial, with $1T expected to be processed by 2030 and $4T by 2035. Additionally, hundreds of billions are predicted to be returned through fee compression.
Lex Sokolin emphasized that credible neutrality on Ethereum is crucial to preventing new walled gardens from capturing the agent layer.
