Ethereum Funding Rate Hits One-Year High Amid Bitcoin Stagnation

Bitcoin has been stuck below $80,000 for some time now, but there's still interest in Ethereum. The funding rate on Binance for Ethereum hit a one-year high at approximately 0.01, coinciding with ETH trading near $2,400.

CryptoQuant analyst ArabxChain notes that a positive funding rate means long holders pay fees to short holders, and the higher the rate, the greater the conviction that longs are willing to pay to maintain upside exposure.

The surge in Ethereum's funding rate reflects a shift in derivatives sentiment toward long positions, reinforcing the spot rally driven by improved risk appetite and returning ETF flows into Ethereum products.

However, CryptoQuant analyst XWIN Japan warns that elevated funding rates also mean a larger pool of leveraged longs that could get squeezed if price reverses sharply. This is particularly concerning for Ethereum as its rally is mostly due to leveraged bets rather than new buyers.
