The Ethereum network has welcomed the launch of Open USD, a new stablecoin backed by a global consortium of over 140 companies. The alliance includes major players such as Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, BlackRock, BNY, and Coinbase.

The stablecoin will operate fee-free and without volume caps on the Ethereum network, with participating institutions able to issue and burn Open USD free of charge. This move reinforces Ethereum's position in the corporate finance segment, which currently hosts the largest portion of tokenized U.S. Treasury bonds and digitized real-world assets.

According to Tom Lee, an analysis by him indicates that Ethereum's adoption by Open USD serves as a validation of the network for the future of the global financial system. The consortium seeks to provide a neutral, equal-access payment infrastructure, with the proposed economic model altering the yield retention dynamics typical of the sector.
