Ethereum Glamsterdam Upgrade Breaks Flat Gas Fee Rule for New Account Creations

Ethereum's upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade is set to introduce changes to its gas fee structure. Currently, creating a new Ethereum account incurs a flat gas fee of 21,000. However, with the Glamsterdam update, this rule will be broken for new account creations.

The introduction of additional state gas charges aims to manage network growth sustainably. This change will affect wallets and developer tools that need to update their transaction logic to avoid failures when sending Ethereum to new addresses.

The Ethereum Foundation has launched a testnet to help developers adapt before the upgrade goes live, which includes other protocol improvements such as proposer-builder separation and larger contract code sizes.
