Ethereum Institutional Backs Plan for Faster Blocks Amid Rising Institutional Activity
Ethereum Institutional, a non-profit organization, has publicly endorsed Ethlabs' effort to reduce Ethereum's block times. The group cited increasing institutional activity onchain as a reason for faster blocks.
The proposal, known as EIP-8198 or 'Quick Slots,' aims to shorten Ethereum's initial block time from 12 seconds to 10 seconds. It has received support from 20 DeFi founders and is being treated as more than an idea by Ethlabs, which is actively preparing it for integration into Ethereum's broader upgrade roadmap.
Ethereum Institutional framed the need for faster blocks as a practical step rather than a technical optimization, linking it to rising onchain usage by institutional participants. This push towards speed comes amid broader industry experimentation, with other networks already moving to shorten their slot or block targets.
