Ethereum Institutional Backs Plan to Speed Up Ethereum Network
Ethereum Institutional has thrown its weight behind Ethlabs' motion to reduce Ethereum block times, aiming to make the network faster and more competitive in a crowded market.
The non-profit organization's support for the proposal comes as increasing institutional activity moves on-chain, making it harder for transactions to be processed quickly. 'Make Ethereum faster,' wrote Ethereum Institutional in a recent X post, echoing Ethlabs' sentiment that reducing block times is crucial at this time.
Ethlabs has been advocating for EIP-8198, also known as 'Quick Slots', which proposes to initially reduce Ethereum block times from 12 seconds to 10 seconds. The proposal was authored in March and is set to be included in the Hegotá upgrade, which could begin implementation by late 2026.
Other blockchain networks are taking similar steps to reduce their block times. For instance, Solana has reduced its slot time from 400 milliseconds to 350ms, while Zcash token holders have voted to cut the network's target block time to 25 seconds, down from 75 seconds.
