Ethereum Institutional Backs Proposal for Faster Block Times
Ethereum Institutional has publicly backed Ethlabs' proposal to reduce Ethereum's block times from 12 seconds to an initial 10 seconds, citing growing on-chain institutional usage.
The proposal, known as EIP-8198 or 'Quick Slots,' aims to improve the network's responsiveness and keep up with increasing institutional activity. Support for the change is also being presented as broad-based within DeFi, with 20 decentralized finance founders quoted by Ethlabs saying they support EIP-8198.
Ethlabs says it is working to align the proposal's specifications with Ethereum's main codebase and assess downstream dependencies so the change can fit into the upcoming Hegotá upgrade cycle. Other networks such as Zcash and Solana have already moved toward faster block/slot timing, highlighting competitive pressure.
