Ethereum Maps Post-Hegota Path as Hyperliquid Raises Limits
Ethereum's post-Hegota roadmap aims to transform the network into a 'cryptographic world computer' by integrating blockchain infrastructure with cryptographic verification and decentralized computation. This shift is expected to begin after the Hegota upgrade in 2027, which may be Ethereum's last 'normal' upgrade according to co-founder Vitalik Buterin.
The post-Hegota architecture plans prioritize recursive STARKs, automated formal verification, optimized consensus algorithms, and quantum safety. By 2030, Ethereum aims to replace traditional block verification with SNARKs and PeerDAS data-availability sampling, reducing the resources required for node operation.
This upgrade will also see a more efficient proof-of-stake system with shorter finality windows, allowing for multiple participants in block construction and slots of four to eight seconds. Final confirmation is expected in roughly eight to 32 seconds.
