Ethereum Marks 11 Years of Blockchain Innovation
Ethereum has reached a milestone, marking its 11th anniversary. Since its mainnet launch in 2015, Ethereum has evolved into the foundation of a thriving digital ecosystem. Over the years, it has transformed how developers build decentralized applications (dApps), enabled the rise of DeFi, powered the NFT revolution, and pioneered innovations such as smart contracts, Layer-2 scaling solutions, and Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus.
Looking back at Ethereum's journey, several key milestones stand out. In late 2013, Vitalik Buterin published the Ethereum Whitepaper, introducing the concept of a programmable blockchain capable of running smart contracts. The public token sale began on July 22nd, 2014, raising over 31,000 BTC to fund the project's development.
In recent years, Ethereum has made significant upgrades to improve its scalability, security, and usability. Notably, the transition from Proof-of-Work (PoW) to PoS in September 2022 reduced network energy consumption by nearly 99.95%. This shift is part of a broader effort to enhance Ethereum's ecosystem for future protocol upgrades.
