Ethereum MEV Dynamics Shift with SUAVE Coordination Layer
The Ethereum MEV (Maximal Extractable Value) dynamics have undergone significant changes with the introduction of SUAVE, a coordination layer developed by Flashbots. In September, SUAVE's mainnet processed over 2.3 million transactions, which is a substantial increase in MEV-related computation.
This shift in capacity has altered the weight of MEV towards the coordination layer, where builders compete for access to aggregated order flow through the messaging layer.
The mev-burn mechanism aims to reduce validator rewards without protocol issuance changes. It does this by changing how builders compensate proposers, with a builder bid consisting of a base fee that is burned and a tip for the proposer.
The proposal targets a saturation balance of 60.25 million ETH, at which point the burn reaches 100% of consensus rewards. At lower staked amounts, all-in validator income falls significantly, moving the incentive for staking away from pure yield.
