Ethereum Network Activity Hits Five-Month Low
The Ethereum network has seen a significant decline in active addresses over the past three months. Data from The Block reveals that new active addresses peaked at 138,620 on June 27 but dropped to around 89,000 by early July. This downward trend continued throughout August and September, with the number of new active addresses fluctuating between 80,000 and 95,000.
Total active addresses have also decreased, reaching a high of 702,857 on June 9 but falling to 574,073 by September 22. This represents an 18.32% decrease from the June high.
A drop in new active addresses often signals decreased user engagement and reduced overall network activity and transaction volume. IntoTheBlock data supports this trend, showing a total volume of large transactions on Ethereum peaked at 2.91 million on July 5 but fell to 1.79 million by September 29 - a 38.4% decrease.
Despite these concerning figures, there's a glimmer of hope. Market intelligence platform Santiment reports that Ethereum network activity is starting to pick up, albeit with rising gas fees. This increase coincides with Ethereum reclaiming its leading position in 24-hour Decentralized Exchange (DEX) volume, which now stands at $1.559 billion.
