Ethereum OG Whale Exits 170000 ETH Holding for $193M Profit
An original Ethereum investor, known as an OG whale, has cashed out nearly their entire holding of 170,000 ETH acquired during the 2015 initial coin offering (ICO). According to on-chain analyst Ember (@EmberCN), the whale recently transferred 13,330 ETH, worth approximately $36.37 million, to Coinbase, effectively liquidating their position.
The sale marks the end of a massive holding, as the whale now retains just 1,484 ETH, valued at around $4.01 million. The average sale price of $1,137 per ETH contrasts sharply with the original ICO cost of $0.311 per ETH, resulting in a staggering profit of approximately $193 million, a return of 3,655x.
The move highlights the extraordinary gains possible for early Ethereum investors. However, KuCoin included a disclaimer noting that digital asset investments carry risks and that the information provided should not be considered financial or investment advice.
