Ethereum Prepares for Capacity Boost with Oct. 6 Glamsterdam Upgrade
The Ethereum network is set to undergo its next major upgrade, Glamsterdam, on October 6. The upgrade will introduce significant changes to block building and parallel execution, laying the groundwork for a substantially higher L1 gas limit.
Glamsterdam aims to increase the network's capacity, with testing producing a credible 200-million post-Glamsterdam gas-limit floor. However, this comes with breaking changes that may break or degrade some existing smart contracts.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has stated that Glamsterdam could be one of Ethereum's final upgrades where scaling still looks primarily like making today's blockchain architecture faster. He expects the next major upgrade, Hegotá, to introduce more radical changes, including recursive STARKs and stronger formal verification.
