Ethereum Price Volatility Continues Amid Market Uncertainty
Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, is currently trading at $2,487.92 per coin. This represents a $15.93 increase from yesterday's price and a $1,823 loss over the past year.
Ethereum operates as a decentralized computing platform, allowing users to build and run applications without oversight from any company or bank. The platform uses its native token, ETH, for these operations.
The value of Ethereum has seen significant growth since its initial coin offering in 2014. At that time, the price was just 31 cents per share, but it has climbed by more than 60,000% over the years.
However, Ethereum's price is also known for its extreme volatility. In recent months, the value of ETH has seen gains exceeding 80% and losses surpassing 60%. Early 2026 brought a steep drop in Ethereum's value due to recession fears and Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin selling millions of dollars worth of ETH.
Ethereum is often compared to Bitcoin, but the two cryptocurrencies serve different purposes. While Bitcoin is primarily used as a store of value and a peer-to-peer payment system, Ethereum operates as a decentralized computing platform with a wide range of real-world uses.
