Ethereum Proposal Faces Backlash from SharpLink CEO
SharpLink CEO Joseph Chalom has publicly spoken out against Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) 8363, which aims to burn validator rewards tied to staking ratios. According to Messari analysts, EIP-8363 would introduce a burn rate that increases as the amount of staked ETH grows, reaching 100% when staked ETH hits 60.25 million, roughly half of the total supply.
Chalom's opposition is based on four main reasons: lower staking yields could weaken decentralized finance (DeFi) by raising on-chain borrowing costs and reducing liquidity; staking rewards fund validators, infrastructure, developers, and other parts of Ethereum's ecosystem; EIP-8363's timing could disrupt Ethereum's growing institutional momentum through stablecoins, tokenized assets, and major financial firms.
Messari analysts have expressed skepticism about the proposal's chances of passing, calling it a 'solution in search of a problem' as Ethereum's issuance is already low at 0.85% per year.
