Ethereum Reserve Drain Reaches New Levels Amid Surging Smart Contract Deployments

Ethereum is experiencing a significant squeeze as exchange reserves drain at a pace of $25.6 million per week. This comes as new smart contract deployments have surged approximately 50% above the trailing three-month average, indicating that builders are still betting on Ethereum.

The amount of ETH sitting on major exchanges has fallen to multi-year lows, with total exchange reserves reaching as low as 16.2 million ETH by mid-2026, according to some measures. This suggests that holders are pulling ETH off exchanges and parking it in wallets they don't plan to touch anytime soon.

The trend of staking now accounts for more than 30% of the total ETH supply, further supporting this notion. Meanwhile, developer activity is telling a different story with smart contract deployments on the rise.
