Ethereum Shifts Focus from Blockchain to Cryptographic Proofs
Vitalik Buterin has outlined Ethereum's roadmap for 2030, which shifts the focus from blockchain to cryptographic proofs for verification. In a recent post, Buterin explained that while the base chain will continue to settle final outcomes, cryptographic proofs will handle more of the verification work.
The current process requires full nodes to validate transactions and state changes independently, which strengthens the network's security but limits capacity gains. Buterin's roadmap keeps transaction ordering and final settlement at the base layer, giving surrounding infrastructure room to handle complex computation before it reaches a final block.
Zero-knowledge proofs can carry more of the checking work, reducing repeated computation that reaches Ethereum's execution environment. Recursive STARKs, data availability sampling, privacy tools, and redesigned consensus are all part of this multi-year technical direction.
