Ethereum Staking Queue Causes Frustration and Idle Capital Costs
Ethereum's native staking mechanism has been causing frustration among users due to its lengthy queue, which can last over a month.
As of September 16, there were over 1.8 million ETH waiting in the queue with an estimated wait time of approximately 32 days, down from a peak of 43 days in July and 60 days in March.
The issue lies in Ethereum's validator queue mechanism, which controls the maximum amount of staked balance that can join the validator set per epoch. The current limit is 256 ETH per epoch, resulting in a daily entry limit of around 57,600 ETH.
This means that if fewer than 57,600 ETH enter the queue each day, the backlog will decrease, reducing the wait time. Conversely, if more than this amount enters daily, the queue will grow longer.
