Ethereum Staking Reward Burn Proposal Withdrawn Amid Concerns Over Issuance Policy
The Ethereum staking reward burn proposal EIP-8363 has been withdrawn from consideration for the network's Hegota upgrade. The co-authors, including Jérôme de Tychey, president of Ethereum France, cited concerns about the appropriate venue for deciding issuance policy changes as the reason for withdrawal.
The authors agreed that a fork scoping exercise was not the right place to settle this issue and decided to pursue a separate process. This decision comes after several industry participants and core protocol contributors raised objections during Hegota's Consideration for Inclusion (CFI) process.
The original proposal, which aimed to burn a rising share of Ethereum validator rewards as more ETH is staked, had been met with significant opposition from some in the industry. However, Stani Kulechov, founder of Aave, praised the decision to withdraw the proposal, calling it 'a great move'.
