Ethereum Stalls at $2,800 Hurdle En Route to $3,000 Target
Ethereum's recent 57% price surge over 90 days has left traders wondering if it can reach $3,000 again. The cryptocurrency outpaced Bitcoin, XRP, and Solana during this period, but still needs an 11% gain to reclaim the target.
The last time Ethereum hit $3,000 was in January 2026, but those who bought at that peak are now significantly underwater. To reach the target again, Ethereum must close above $2,807 resistance, and a successful Glamsterdam upgrade test on October 6 could be the key catalyst.
The rally began from a low of about $1,693 in July and saw a significant boost on August 19 when Ethereum jumped 17% to $2,252. However, momentum has gradually slowed over the past month, with an 8% gain after a robust 45% increase over the previous two months.
Ethereum's market cap would rise from about $330 billion to $366 billion if it reaches $3,000, requiring around $36 billion in new buying. The January sellers near breakeven add significant overhead resistance, making it challenging for Ethereum to stay above this level.
