Ethereum Surges Past $2,000 Amid Record Short Squeeze
Ethereum has broken out of its prolonged consolidation and decisively cleared $2,000 amid a massive short squeeze. The sharp expansion in volatility increases the risk of profit-taking following the surge toward $2,300.
The crypto-market liquidations approached $3 billion over the past 24 hours, turning the initial advance into a broad short squeeze and making it the second-largest short squeeze on record after October 2025. According to CoinGlass, short positions made up most of the liquidations ($2.74 billion) and Ethereum itself had around $1.13 billion in liquidations.
Institutional demand is still helping the market. U.S. Spot Ethereum ETFs had about $189 million in inflows on August 19, which was the highest since October 10, 2025, according to SoSoValue.
