Ethereum Surges Past $2,700 as Macro Headwinds Fuel Recovery
Ethereum (ETH) has staged a strong comeback in recent sessions, rising for six consecutive days to reach a price of $2,700. This marks a significant breakout from its narrow range-bound pattern over the past month and sets a new high since January this year.
During this period, Bitcoin (BTC) has remained capped at $82,000, failing to break out of its 30-day consolidation range. The contrast between the two leading cryptocurrencies is striking, with ETH experiencing a sustained upward trend while BTC consolidates at high levels.
The catalyst behind Ethereum's recovery is largely attributed to the materialization of macroeconomic headwinds. As Federal Reserve interest rate hikes and falling commodity prices alleviated inflation anxiety, overall market risk appetite recovered, triggering liquidations of short positions and accelerating gains for ETH.
Transaction volumes and total value locked (TVL) on Ethereum Layer 2 networks such as Base, Arbitrum, and Optimism have rebounded significantly. The expansion of DeFi, real-world asset tokenization, and stablecoin issuance has increased fundamental demand for the Ethereum network, driving expectations for token deflationary burning.
Looking ahead, if ETH can hold above $2,700, it will open the pathway to the top of the $3,000 consolidation range. However, Ethereum faces Fibonacci 0.382 resistance at $2,800, a dense overhang zone where selling pressure from break-even trades and profit-taking could concentrate.
