Ethereum Taps Bitcoin Scaling Tech to Cut Costs by Nearly All
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has acknowledged the influence of Bitcoin's Utreexo technology on his team's scaling efforts. In a recent post, he highlighted how Utreexo-style state management can be combined with traditional dynamic state models to create a hybrid framework for Ethereum.
The proposed framework aims to reduce payment state consumption by approximately 99.8%, according to research by Toni Wahrstätter, an Ethereum researcher. This is achieved through the use of EIP-8141 Frame Transactions, which are currently being considered for inclusion in the upcoming Hegotá upgrade.
However, it's essential to note that this framework remains a theoretical proposal and not a ratified protocol modification. Buterin emphasized that Ethereum aims to incorporate the best aspects of UTXO-style state management while preserving its account-based architecture.
