Ethereum Tests 200M Gas Limit on Sepolia for Glamsterdam Upgrade
Ethereum is advancing its Glamsterdam upgrade with a significant gas limit test on the Sepolia testnet. Starting today, the network will experiment with a 200 million gas limit, more than tripling the previous 60 million configuration. This change is part of the Prysm v7.2.1 release by Offchain Labs, which also introduces partial data column handling and new configuration options for builders.
The upgrade, scheduled to activate at 13:53:36 UTC on October 6, combines execution-layer changes from Amsterdam with consensus-layer changes from Gloas. Key features include enshrined proposer-builder separation (ePBS) and block-level access lists (BALs), designed to improve block production and validation. BALs allow clients to perform state reads and transaction validation in parallel, enhancing efficiency.
The 200 million gas limit is specific to Sepolia and does not yet affect the Ethereum mainnet. Validators using Prysm v7.2.1 will automatically adopt the new limit, though manual adjustments are possible. The Ethereum Foundation has not announced activation dates for Hoodi or the mainnet.
Meanwhile, ETH is trading around $2,714, with a market cap of approximately $331 billion. The cryptocurrency has seen a slight decline of about 0.8% over the past 24 hours. Recent market analysis highlights $2,700 as an immediate support level, with resistance around $2,780-$2,800.
