Ethereum to Become Cryptographic World Computer by 2030

Ethereum is moving toward a revolutionary new architecture that could make it more efficient and secure. According to Vitalik Buterin, the network's co-founder, Ethereum will evolve into what he calls a 'cryptographic world computer' by 2030.

This vision involves combining blockchain consensus with cryptographic proofs, data sampling, privacy technology, and decentralized computing outside the main chain. The goal is to let Ethereum handle more computation without requiring every participant to repeat the same work.

The change will become more pronounced after Hegotá, a planned upgrade for 2027. After this, upgrades are expected to increasingly focus on recursive STARKs, automated formal verification, optimized consensus, and quantum-resistant cryptography.
