Ethereum Turns 11: A Decade of Uptime and Dominance
Ethereum turned 11 years old on July 30, marking an important milestone in its history. Since going live on mainnet in 2015, Ethereum has consistently demonstrated technical supremacy as a dominant platform in the space.
One of its key promises remains true: there is no single company behind it, and no one can turn it off. This level of trust and fairness drew interest from developers and capital alike. Looking at data from DefiLlama, Ethereum still has the highest DeFi ecosystem in crypto with a total value locked approximately 8 times that of the next largest chain.
The network is permissionless, allowing anyone to join as a validator, which means it can only grow and not be controlled in a closed or permissioned environment. Besides its use for settling stablecoins and tokenized assets, Ethereum also leads in terms of liquidity and compliance for institutional investors who decide to go on-chain.
Ethereum is still the blockchain platform with the largest number of software developers. It supports second-generation networks such as Arbitrum, Base, and Optimism that boost speed while still benefiting from the security of ETH.
